๐Ÿ— The Best Chicken Pulke Recipes from Chef Raoul – Straight from the Heart of Camp Chayeinu

If you’ve ever spent a summer at Camp Chayeinu, chances are you’ve tasted the legend that is Chef Raul’s Chicken Pulke. Ask any camper or staff member and you’ll see their eyes light up at the mere mention of it. It’s not just food—it’s tradition. It’s comfort. And it’s absolutely delicious.

So what makes Chef Raul’s chicken pulke (drumsticks, for the uninitiated) so unforgettable? Let’s dig into the flavors, the stories, and yes—one or two top-secret recipes he graciously allowed us to share (don’t tell Raoul we told you...).

๐Ÿง„ 1. The Classic Friday Night Pulke

Nothing says Shabbos at Chayeinu like Raul’s classic chicken pulke—slow-cooked, juicy, and infused with garlic, onion, and a magical mix of Mediterranean spices.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken drumsticks (obviously)

  • Olive oil

  • Fresh garlic (crushed)

  • Sweet paprika

  • Smoked paprika

  • Onion powder

  • Salt & pepper

  • A splash of lemon juice

  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Raul's Secret Tip: Marinate overnight. Always. The garlic needs time to work its magic.

๐Ÿฏ 2. The Sweet & Savory BBQ Pulke (aka “Pulke Party Friday”)

This one’s a crowd-pleaser and known to cause full-on stampedes to the dining hall.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken drumsticks

  • Honey

  • Soy sauce

  • Garlic powder

  • Brown sugar

  • Dijon mustard

  • A pinch of cayenne

  • Sesame seeds (optional)

How to Serve: With a side of golden potatoes and grilled corn, of course.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 3. The Smoky Campfire Pulke

This recipe is less about precision and more about the vibes. Grilled over an open flame on Erev Tisha B’Av, this one’s pure nostalgia.

Key ingredients:

  • Drumsticks

  • Olive oil

  • A dry rub of paprika, cumin, garlic salt, and pepper

  • A lot of smoky flavor from the fire pit

Raoul’s Advice: Let the skin char a little—adds character.

๐Ÿงข Bonus: Why Everyone Loves Raul (Besides His Cooking)

It’s not just the pulke. It’s Raul himself—his booming laugh from the kitchen, his secret stash of popsicles, and his ability to feed 300 campers with love in every bite. Every dish tells a story, and every bite reminds us why Camp Chayeinu feels like home.

๐Ÿ“ฌ A Letter from Chef Raul
From the Hot Kichen at Camp Chayeinu

Hi Campers,

Its me, Chef Raul (the one with the big smile and the fork neckless ๐Ÿฅ„).

I make the pulkes. The big juicy chikin legz that evrybody yells about. Some kids say "RAUL U DA KING OF PULKE" and I say "Yes i am but also i burn my thumb agian today."

I work in the kichen at Chayeinu and I got speshul needs. That means sometimes things is hard for me, like carring the big trayz or opening the big oven door (ITS SO HOT OMG). But I try my best every day. Some days I go slow but slow is still goin! ๐Ÿ’ช

I got my fork neckless on every day. It’s my favrit. It gives me powers. Like "go fast raul" and "dont drop the chikin" powers.

Sumtimes I try to help the cleaning crew but they is a cupple and I feel like the 3rd wheel lol. They is always laughin and moppin and Im like “hey u forgot a SPOT!” ๐Ÿ˜† But its okay I just pulke my way around.

The pulkes is made with:

  • love

  • garlic

  • my secret (I cant tell u)

  • a little bit of music from my headphones (yes I dance in the kitchen when no one is lookin)

When u eat them pulkes, I want you to think “wow this is made with heart.” Because I do it with heart. My hands maybe shaky but my heart is full.

So if u see me in the hallway or the kitchen or sittin on the milk crate for a break, say “Raul your pulke is fire” and I will say “I KNOW RIGHT”

Love,
Chef Raul
Chayeinu Pulke Master
Fork Power Forever

P.S. Yes u can have thirds. If you smile at me. ๐Ÿ˜
